"…In this research we evaluated the calcium channel antagonist activity of various diester analohues of nifedipine on rat ileal smooth muscle.in these analogues,the orthophenyl group at position 4 was replaced by 1 methyl 2-meythylsulfonyl or methylthio 5-imidazolyl.wistar rats(180-250g) were killed by a blow to the head.the intestine was removed above the ileucecal junction and longitudinal smooth muscle segments of 2 cm length were maintained at 37c in a 10 ml jacket organ bath containing oxygenated intestinal krebs soluion.the contractions was recorded with a force displacement transducer connected to a physiograp.the contraction was elisited with 80 mmol KCL.test compounds were cumulatively added to produse 50% relaxation of contracted ileal smooth muscle (IC50) THAT WAS DETERMINED FROM THE CINCENTRATION response trace recorded by physiograph.the IC50 of nifedipine was (1.26+-0.37)*10 and of compounds 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 was(2.57+_0.28)*10,(1.03+_0.12)*10,(2.55+_0.50)*10,(1.32+_0.18)*10,(3.16+_0.89)*10, and (1.04+_0.29)*10 mole respectively.the results indicate that replacement of 2_ nitrophenyl at C4 position of nifedipine with methyltion or methyl solfunyl imidazolyl reduces the activity.the comparison of the activites of symetrical esters(compounds No 3&6) indicated that increasing the length of methylen chain in C3 and C5 esters substituend decreases the avtivity.Comparison of the activities of asymetrical esters(compounds No4&5) indicates that,when at C3 there is a small substituent,increasing the length of methylen chain increases activity.comparison of the activites of symetrical esters(compounds 2 and 3) with asymetrical esters(compounds 1,4.5 and 6) indicates that asymetrical esters are not always more potent than symmetrical esters.compound 4 was the most potent new compound in this study.finally we can conclude that nifedipine was significantely more potent than all of these compounds.…"

An evaluation of the results of mantoux test in children received BCG vaccine during the neonatal period oleh M.H Daei-Parizi, M.B Hoseini, A Ramezani

"…BCG vaccination has an important role in preventing the serious forms of tuberculosis in children.adverse effects of BCG vaccination are uncommon in immunocompetent children.one of the side effects of BCG vaccine is its potential for produsing hypersensitivity to tuberculin and difficulties in interpretation of PPD test results.Knowledge of the normal variations in the induration of Mantoux(PPD) test with age is of utmost importance in the interpretation of this test.since no comprehensive study has been performed on this subject in our country.we undertook this investigation on 247 children with ages from three months to 8 years who had been admitted to pediatric ward of Kerman university hospital No.1 and in whom all confounding variables had been omitted. of all children hospitalized in our pediatric wards,those cases entered this study who were three months to 8 years of age and who had  received BCG vaccine in the neonatal period.the result of PPD test was negative (induration of 0-4 mn) in 78 cases (31.9%) ,doubtful(5-9 mm) in 138 cases(55.9%),and positive in 31 cases (12.6%).there was no statistically significant correlation between the degree of induration in the PPD test and age of the children(r=0.0262:p=0.341).however ,when the study groups was divided into two age groups of below one year and above one year of age,we found two different trends:in the former age group the amount of induration decreased significantly with age (r=0.2857:p=0.002),while in the latter group induration increased significantly with age increase (r=0.1812:p=0.014).this investigation demonstrated that in the first few months of life and in the period after 24 months of age,there is a higher probability for finding positive results(>_10mm).we can attribute these results to the effect of vaccination-in infants younger that six months of age and environmental factors such as increased contact of children with atypical mycobacteria for children above 24 months of age,though it is necessary to investigate these cases for the presence of tuberculosis.in infants from 6 to 36 months of age,who have the highest rate of negative results,a more cautious approach must be taken in case of the PPD induration diameter of 10 mm or above.…"
