In Tamil culture, folk deities have a vital influence on a person`s lifestyle and can be seen through the festivals celebrated for them. Humans thought that some sort of esoteric power in the world prevails over him and for that he started to worship the deities. They believe that God has appeared in human feelings and emotions to make hope in them to understand through the practices of worshipping the deities. In Tamil Nadu, there is a tradition of worshipping the ancestors as Gods who had passed away and people have been worshipping their ancestors as descendants within the community. A group of community people who belong to the same lineage and worship the same deities are called brethren. Based on the facts, the people have been conducting festivals, prayers and sacrifice domestic animals to their ancestral Gods. They believed that they are worshipping the ancestral God during the festival days through different rituals which would give them prosperity in their life and decrease their problems. The festivals expose that the people would assemble there from the perspective of religious and social consciousness as a symbol of unity without any partiality. Idolatry clarifies the myth of folk deities' birth and death. Hence, the festivals with peculiar rituals reveal that Idolatry is an indispensable practice in the life of the people of Tamil Nadu.
