The purpose of this article is to analyse the symbology in the metaficcional universe created by Juan José Millás in Que nadie duerma (2018). First, it will analyse the writer’s narrative as part of his generation and focalising on the novel concept and the new literary movements in the last years such as autofiction, metafiction or neonovela. Then, we will study Que nadie duerma in three sections: familiar heritage of the protagonist and avian symbology within the narrative universe and her traumatic childhood. Secondly, the study of interartistic metaficcional games created by Juan José Millás and the existentialist inspiration (life as theatre, Calderón de la Barca), the fight of real versus fiction and the doubtfulness of the being. To sum up, we will analyse the cathartic ending as closure of his metafictional world.
