This research seeks to provide an answer to the following question: are the Value-Based Management (VBM) practices used by companies coherent with the practices advocated by theory? This is a case-study investigating a sugarcane processing plant located in Lençóis Paulista, a country town in São Paulo state. This study investigates if there is alignment between the VBM practices used by the company and those proposed in the literature reviewed by the authors. The results indicate that ten of the company's practices are aligned with the literature, but the independence practice has not been adopted by the company.
