Biomaterials are materials that are primarily made or engineered for biological compatibility with the tissue and cells so that they can be used for healing or repairing purposes on the living organism. They are widely used nowadays for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. Due to their biodegradability and eco-friendly nature, they offer a wide domain of application not only in medicinal purposes but also on the platforms of technological advancement. The most widely used biomaterial is Titanium due to its high biocompatibility and its ability to be inert to the chemicals present inside the human body. The properties of the metals are known to be enhanced by Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) processes. ECAP is the most effective method of refining grains enhancing the properties of the metals. In this paper, ECAP is used to refine the grain size of the Titanium and its alloys used as Biomaterials and the effects of ECAP on them are studied.
