The purpose of this research project was to determinewhether gender made a difference with respect to the effectsof psychological and behavioral parental control on the emotionaland behavioral problems in male and female adolescents.A non-random sample of 587 Mexico City public highschool students with a mean age of 13.8 was selected, of which46.8% were male and 53.2% female. The Maternal and PaternalControl Perception Scale for Adolescents and the adjustedversion of the Youth Self-Report were used. The overall resultsshowed that both maternal and paternal psychologicalcontrol had a greater influence than behavioral control on thepresence of emotional and behavioral problems.
