This paper analyzes the social assistance policy and its ́ decisions, such as the Unified Social Assistance, which has established as one of its ́ main structural axes the familiar social matrix, by addressing the conceptual and the practical contradictions and paradoxes of this axis. This fact can cause setbacks in the assistance area but also can present advances if working on a whole perspective. It is perceived that having the family as the center of the policy is not enough. It is necessary to recognize its ́ plurality of forms and singularities. Besides, the families need to have Universal access to the policies directed to the families as a whole instead of highlightening it ́s social reproduction role.
