Deskripsi

The article summarizes the main political lines of action of rap in São Paulo since 1988, the last year of the “democratic transition” in Brazil. Then, presents a brief history of appropriation of Hip Hop and Rap development in São Paulo over the 1980s. Finally, it analyzes the political activity of three raps from São Paulo: “Política”, by Athalyba-Man, record by the rapper in 1994; “O menino do morro”, by Eduardo Taddeo, recorded by Facção Central in 2003; and “Mil faces de um homem leal (Marighella)”, by Mano Brown, broadcasted in Rational MC’s clip in 2012. In these three analyzes, the forms of the songs are interpreted in the light of some impasses of Brazilian society.
