In the Institute News section of our last issue, a Call for Papers was published for a conference on ‘Simulating Boilers and Steam Distribution Systems' organised by the Teesside Section and to be held at the Cleveland Scientific Institution, Middlesbrough, on 6 December this year. This article surveys many areas where simulation can be profitable. The papers called for should illuminate some of the problems covered in this article.
