The seashore has long been considered by archaeologists as an area devoted to a survey archaeology. However, the french Atlantic/Channel/North Sea foreshore shows traces of many sites or implements linked with onboard fishing and the exploitation of resources directly on the foreshore in interaction with the coastal societies. This territorial continuity is therefore far from being accepted on an epistemologic point of view, although an important movement tends to revalorize gathering/fishing/hunting practices in their social and technical complexity.Presently, archaeo-biology of the marine resources shows all the interest of geochemical approaches or more generally transversal approaches, from the fishing areas, the transformation sites to the consumption ones, sometimes very far from the coastline.More, archaeology on the seashore offers specificities what need a methodological discussion: -particular, even extreme, fieldwork conditions;-urgency of the interventions linked to the coastal erosion processes;-sites producing an original documentation, nearby from the one of wetlands archaeology;-the possibility to experiment original field methods.
