Deskripsi

For nearly a decade, sociology has scrutinised the experts, consultants and other observers who have crowded into the world of work, to the point of becoming central players in this arena. Although it seems as if they have become indispensable to companies’ public actions – and to their strategic, economic and financial decisions – the same might be said about oppositional and union actions, which increasingly rely on experts working on staff representative bodies. Focusing on the expertise of health and safety committees, this NRT “Controversy” issue is an attempt to debate the role that such expertise plays in the construction of a new balance of power within companies, thereby questioning contemporary transformations in unionism and collective action.
