<p>La conoscenza di forma, dimensioni e posizione spaziale costituisce un’esigenza importante per la catalogazione e l’analisi dei Beni Monumentali. Le informazioni possono essere acquisite, come noto, mediante dispositivi ottici attivi che fanno riferimento ai sistemi terrestri a scansione laser, supportati dall’immagine fotografi ca. L’approccio è senza contatto e conduce dopo un’elaborazione software, più o meno automatica, a un modello spaziale foto-realistico e misurabile.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Terrestrial laser scanning technology for Cultural Heritage documentation </strong></p><p>The  knowledge  of  shape,  dimensions  and  georeferencing  can  represent  an  important  requirement  in Cultural Heritage documentation. The acquisition of this information is nowadays more and more connected with active optical sensors, such as terrestrial laser scanners. These devices emit light energy towards objects of interest and record the return rate: this way, a non-contact approach to modeling and imaging is allowed.The paper, starting with an overview on terrestrial scanning technology, shortly analyzes the technical enhancement regarding automation for virtual reconstruction and photo-texturing.</p>
