The title compound, C13H7ClN4O·C2H6O, was synthesized by the reaction of 4-chlorobenzaldehyde, malononitrile and 10% sodium hydroxide solution in an aqueous medium. In the crystal structure, the crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular N—H...N, O—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds.
