One pot, three-component synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines using ionic liquid 3,3′-thionyl-bis-1,1′-methylimidazolium chloroaluminate ([tbmim]Cl2/AlCl3) was found to be efficient to afford good to excellent yields at room temperature under ultrasonic irradiation. This method has many advantages, which avoids the use of harmful catalysts, occurence of reactions at room temperature, high yields and methodological simplicity.
