This article reports on how the nurse member of a therapeutic patient education (TPE) team positions herself in the decision-making process in which patients with chronic kidney disease have the possibility to choose a dialysis method and how they participate in decisions when there is a TPE program. The qualitative study (interviewing and participant observation) conducted in a dialysis centre revealed an active and/or passive role played by nurses and patients in decisions according to the situations they face. It highlights the existence of a doctor-patient-nurse educator relationship that determines the decisions of the actors.
