This article deals with the impact of the aeroplane (Manutara) on the island of Rapa Nui. It reflects on how this machine is inserted into the island's problems, in the conception of territory and how the plane can be understood as an object of anthropological study capable of providing a pertinent reading of the social reality as an object, an experience and a symbol in the relations between the State of Chile and Rapa Nui Island.
