Deskripsi

Background: Several factors can have an influence on weight of patients who underwent bariatric surgery. This study was aiming to assess the associations of demographic factors, comorbidities, dieting, level of physical activity and type of bariatric surgery with postoperative weight loss and longer term weight gain. Methods: This study is a retrospective assessment of medical records of patients who underwent bariatric surgery at University Central Hospital of Trousseau, France, between January 2014 and December 2018. Patients’ demographic and clinical data were accessed through the hospital’s electronic medical records. Data utilized in this study were routinely collected for patients as standard medical care for patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Students T test was used to assess association between demographic or clinical variables with level of BMI reduction. Chi square test was used to assess the presence of statistically significant associations between demographic and clinical variables and presence or absence of weight gain. Results: Medical records of 227 patients whom underwent bariatric surgery were reviewed in this investigation. Mean age of the participants was 42 years where majority of them were females (82%). Age and type of surgery seems to influence magnitude of weight lost postoperatively. Having sleep apnea, cardiopathy, hypertension, diabetes, and athreosis seem to be associated with weight reduction trends with variable degrees. Conclusion: Type of surgery and level of physical activity seem to have an effect on longer run weight regain postoperatively.
