Deskripsi

Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, presidential candidate of the Libertad y Refundación (LIBRE) party, founded in 2012 by her husband, former president Manuel Zelaya (2006-2009), won the general elections of November 28, 2021. Overthrown by a coup d'état in 2009, the Zelaya-Castro family returns to the helm of executive power with a proposal of « democratic socialism », after twelve years of National Party (PN) governments that have meant a profound setback for the country. The article seeks to offer some explanatory clues about the political context in which the primary and general elections took place in Honduras. The author offers a series of considerations on the main political forces in Honduras and on the immediate political panorama.
