Alfred Agache, french urbanist, has put forward to Rio de Janeiro a monumental civic square which he named "Gateway to Brazil". This square would be placed at Gauanabara Bay ' shoreline, and it was designed as part of the city's master plan, during 1927-1930. This paper brings a brief analysis of this square, understanding the urban landscape as a cultural construction
