The evaluation of saying prayers and social and national identities of youth (case study: university students of Kashan)

Background: Religiosity includes various dimensions, that due to the religiosity model of Glock and Stark, religious practices is one of the 5-dimensions of it. Saying prayer is suggested by religious people in Islam Religion and nationality are some factors which people can identify and recognize them by. It can create a sense of common group. According to this approach, however, religion is a private affair; it can connect human being by having a mutual experience. In order to evaluate this impact, this study aimed to investigate of the relationship between saying prayers and social and national identities. Materials and Methods: This study was done in years 1397-1398, and 294 male and female students in all grads and all majors in Kashan University were selected by Cochran formula and cluster sampling. Results: Findings from 2 variables linear regression indicates the significant impact of saying prayers on social identity and it can identify 18 percent of changes in dependent variable. Saying prayers has a significant effect on national identity and it can also identify 15 percent of it, also. Conclusion: It has been concluded that, by increasing the practice of saying prayers, national and social identities will increase. Finally, pushing teenagers and youth to say prayers, can enforce social integrity and social and national identities. So the country will be safe against disunion, additionally encouragement to saying prayers is a serious barrier against invasion and influence of strangers.
