Deskripsi
Measurements at mesopause heights (about 95 km) show a correlation between the zonal prevailing wind and the equatorial quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO). In winter and spring a positive correlation of the QBO winds and the zonal prevailing wind at mesopause heights is found which is, however, significant only in December and April. It is supposed, that during the other months in winter the mesopause wind field is partially disturbed by stratospheric warmings, which may overlie a possible correlation. In summer, no significant influence of the QBO on the zonal prevailing wind is found.
