Deskripsi
Barite is a critical raw material used in many sectors, especially in oil, natural gas and shale gas exploration. Due to the concentration of approximately 79% of the existing 300 million tons of barite reserves in the world in four countries as of 2020, the 30-year life remaining unless new reserves are discovered with the current production capacity, and the expected increase in demand between 3.8% and 7.3% annually, market concentration and competitiveness in the barite market have become important. In this study, barite reserves and production of the world and Turkey have been firstly examined. The development of the world barite export and import markets between 2010 and 2019 was examined, and the concentration and competition conditions in this market were analyzed by using various concentration indexes. When the concentration indexes are evaluated in general, it is determined that the concentration has started to decrease and competition has started to increase with the entry of new countries into the barite export market after 2013, and in the import market, after 2014, with the increase in the demand of the existing importer countries, the concentration has started to increase and the competition has started to decrease. Although Turkey, an exporter country in the barite market, has 11.67% of world reserves and its share in world barite exports has exceeded 5% in recent years, it has been concluded that it has not yet received a sufficient share from world exports in an environment where there is a competitive environment in exports.
