Deskripsi
Carlos María Domínguez’ novels and non-fiction dating from the first decade of the XXI Century take place in a specific región that is defined in the itineraries takes by its characters: the Río de la Plata islands, its argentinean and uruguayan coasts and the atlantic shore of Uruguay. If geography links them, the meanings they convey oposes sea and river coast in the literary region. Even though the distinction between types of wáter relies on a larger imaginary, both specify their representation when connected to the lands they reach. The way storms are depicted in Tres muescas en mi carabina (2002) and La costa ciega (2009) confronts each space value and function as part of the literary region. In this paper, I read this spatial construction in the interplay between the affective dimensión of the story and the pictorial tradition that descriptive passages are modeled after.
