Deskripsi

The roman republic experienced a serious decline in the coinage of bronze currency during late 2nd century and early 1st century BC. This fact, aggravated in Hispania due to Sertorian war, produced an important lack of fractional bronze coins. In order to relieve this problem, local mints issued bronze and coin-like lead tokens as fiduciary currency; the latter were also minted by mining and agricultural "societas" in southern Hispania. Lead currency with legend N. CALECI are an example of this.
