Abstract The genus Dicella (Malpighiaceae) has been collected for the first time in Colombia by Dr. Djaja D. Soejarto. The species is Dicella julianii (Macbride) W. R. Anderson, comb. nov. It is described, illustrated, and compared to its nearest relative, D. conwayi. The phytogeographic significance of this trans-Andean disjunct from Amazonia is discussed in relation to Haffer's theory of Pleistocene forest refuges.
