Deskripsi
This study offers a micro-reading of Mrs Arnoux’s striking declaration (and its effects) to Frédéric Moreau in the penultimate chapter of L’Éducation sentimentale: “There is no one like you!” Should it be read as a “feminine” and sublime construction of an elective bond? Does it signify the triumph of the imaginary? The impossible relation between men and women? All of that at the same time, perhaps, because of the tension established between all and nothing, and the ambiguous way in which the novel considers the “in between”: there are nothing but interpretations.
