The title compound, C11H9NO2, was prepared by a condensation reaction of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with hydroxylammonium chloride in refluxing ethanol. An intramolecular O—H...N hydrogen bond is observed. In the crystal structure, intermolecular O—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen-bond interactions result in a two-dimensional network.
