INTRODUCTION: We investigated the effect of urethelial carcinoma insitu (CIS) association on cystectomy material on oncologic survival of 73 patients who underwent radical cystectomy with diagnosis of invasive urethral carcinoma in our clinic. METHODS: Seventy three patients were included in the study who underwent radical cystectomy in our clinic between 2006 and 2011. Urethelial CIS with invasive urethelial carcinoma in cystectomy specimen was detected in 14 patients of 73 cases. A total of 59 patients with invasive urethelial carcinoma and 14 patients with concomitant CIS were evaluated for 5 years overall and disease free survival. RESULTS: The mean age of the 73 patients was 63. The cases were divided into 2 groups; only invasive urethelial carcinomas were detected in 59 patients (80.8%) and 14 patients (19.2%) were diagnosed as urethelial carcinoma in situ with invasive urethelial carcinoma. 38 patients (64%) in the first group and 9 patients (64.4%) in the second group had 5-year disease-free survival. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In our study, it was determined that there was no statistical significant on the general and 5-year survival of urethelial CIS detected as a concomitant cystectomy material. However, due to the limited number of patients, we think that prospective studies with a larger number of patients are needed in order to have clearer results.
