The objective of this study is to estimate the opportunity cost of time spent on household work and expenditure-saving market work performed by individuals by taking into account their personal and socio-demographic characteristics. The study also estimates the determinants of allocation of time by using opportunity cost as a primary explanation by exploring the impact of personal and socio-demographic characteristics and the household head’s personal and labour market characteristics. Data is gathered from Labour force Survey of Pakistan for different years. Pseudo panel technique comprises is used by making cohorts of household and expenditure-saving market activities, regions, and provinces. It is recommended from this study that a successful policy will improve the human welfare of unpaid contributing family workers and individuals involved in household work. Hence, they will benefit from such policies, and the desired results will be achieved without any unforeseen adverse side effects in other groups.
