This article shows the results of a preliminary study about the theoretical assumptions as a theoretical result in doctorate degrees (Ph D), in educational research, particularly. The documentary study includes 30 theses that present such result. The theoretical systematization carried out allows characterizing the theoretical assumptions as a scientific result. Some essential qualities of scientific ideas, considering the role they play in this kind of result are offered. Finally, a possible format for organizing the information when dealing with a theoretical assumption is suggested.
