China is a country with many earthquakes，and Yunnan is a province with frequent earthquakes. The Tonghai earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 in 1970 caused more than 10 000 casualties. In recent years，government departments have increased their efforts on propagating the science and popularization of earthquakes. The earthquake department has played an important role in earthquake prevention and mitigation. After a long period of exploration and development by earthquake people from generation to generation，the seismic station becomes the basic unit of the earthquake monitoring system. This article briefly discusses how Yunnan earthquake stations can be better expanded and used for earthquake disaster reduction and local economic development.
