The constructions and the semantics of three English verbs are examined in this paper. A distinction is made between appear and seem on the one hand and look on the other hand. From a cognitive point of view, the first ones pertain to the idea of perception, ie. subject orientated visibility, whereas the other one pertains to what we call «constructed appearance», ie. target orientated observation. These verbs then represent two different kinds of conceptual integrations.
