The roles played by bactofilins, a widespread type of bacterial cytoskeletal elements, are unclear. Here, the authors show that the bactofilins BacNOPÂ facilitate proper subcellular localization of the ParABS chromosome segregation system in the model organism Myxococcus xanthus.
