Nursery performance analysis within a model of management units

<strong>Objective</strong>: Identify the nursery’s working spaces after implementation of a Unit Management model at a large and complex teaching hospital in south of Brazil. <strong>Method</strong>: exploratory descriptive study with a qualitative approach – Case Study. The data were collected with semi-structured interviews. Subjects: 15 nurses that represent the job positions at the institution. <strong>Results</strong>: All subjects are female, aged from 25 to 59 years, with high-level education, work experience at the hospital between 5 and 30 years, most of them have a post-graduate degree. The activities are divided on consulting services, public health surveillance, management, nursing care, on-the-job education, health education, research, and university-related management work. <strong>Conclusion</strong>: nurses working as assistants give support to public health surveillance; at Nursing Services, the activities are related to unit and care management; and at external administrative positions, they support general institutional demands.
