Through a close examination of recently discovered documentary sources, this article posits the hypothesis that Donato Velluti’s Cronica domestica was used in the composition of some chapters of Niccolò Machiavelli’s Florentine Histories (Istorie fiorentine). This possibility is supported by textual comparisons between several extracts from books 2 and 3 of Machiavelli’s Histories and Velluti’s work, and also by other biographical and historical evidence.
