Rhabdoviruses, as single-stranded, negative-sense RNA viruses within the order <i>Mononegavirales</i>, are characterised by bullet-shaped or bacteroid particles that contain a helical ribonucleoprotein complex (RNP). Here, we review the components of the RNP and its higher-order structural assembly.
