O artigo destaca as contribuições e aponta alguns limites da Sociologia da Educação de Pierre Bourdieu. Na primeira parte, são analisadas as reflexões do autor sobre a relação entre herança familiar (sobretudo, cultural) e desempenho escolar. Na segunda parte, são discutidas suas teses sobre o papel da escola na reprodução e legitimação das desigualdades sociais.<br>This paper emphasizes the limits and contributions of Pierre Bourdieu's Sociology of Education. In the first part, it discusses Bourdieu's reflections on the relationship between family inheritance (specially the cultural one) and school performance. In the second part, Bourdieu's theses about the role of school in the reproduction and legitimation of social inequalities are analized.
