The Gurgy “le Nouzeau” site (Yonne) is a Central Middles Ages settlement characterised by ditched structures (excavated huts, ditches, siloes) and appears to be fairly isolated, although the southern boundary of its extension has not been explored. It status came to light through the abundance and wide variety of its characteristic metal tools. An assemblage of faunic remains points to specific agro-pastoral practices that possibly reveal a sheep-farming site, although birds, pigs, cattle and horses are also present. Knives, arrow-heads and most of all pieces of locks, a cup and a door key are all unusual exhibits in such a context. The abundant ceramic furniture provides a date for the site, with an indication as to the networks for its earthenware supplies. It could be a farm linked to a monastery dependency of Auxerre Abbey.
