Since the 19th century, the Urville-Nacqueville beach lead to numerous archaeological discoveries. Between 1995 and 2009, several experiences have been conducted to allow the excavation of a large open area in the highest part of the shore, whilst being protected from the submersion at high tide. The excavation has been possible by building a protective dyke and by choosing jointly very low tide coefficients.
