Deskripsi

Background and Aims: Dyes are one of the important toxic compounds in the industrial wastewater. Therefore, dyes must be removed using an effective method before being discharged into the environment. Absorption is one of the effective processes in purifying highly colored wastewater. In this study, the potential absorption of reactive red 198 by canola was investigated. Methods: Present study is an experimental survey that was performed in a batch system. The effects of influential variables such as contact time, pH of solution, initial dye concentration, were investigated in absorbent. The experiments were repeated in triplicate then isotherms and absorption reaction velocity of different models were analyzed by comparing the coefficient of determination. For measuring RR198 Spectrophotometer at wavelength of 518 nm was used. Results: The maximum capacity for absorption of the dye at the highest concentration was found to be 34.35 mg/min. The dye removal efficiency percentage decreased from %99 to %54 when the concentration of RR198 was increased from 10 mg/L to 500 mg/L. The results showed that Maximum removal was at 10 mg/L, absorbent dose of 8 g/L and contact time of 75 minutes. The Langmuir equation and pseudo- second order model showed the best fit for the experimental data. Conclusion: The result of present work indicated that the Canola residuals can be used as a suitable, low-cost and efficient absorbent to remove the dyes.*Corresponding Author: Davoud Balarak, Health Promotion Research Center, School of Public Health, Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, Zahedan, Iran.Email: dbalarak2@gmail.com
