Deskripsi

Background: When an incomplete fetal skel-eton comes to the Anatomy department for itsage estimation, it becomes difficult to arrive atthe age due to lack of information in most ofthe standard textbooks of Anatomy and Foren-sic medicine. This study helps to arrive at thefetal age by certain formulae. Aims of Study:The estimate fetal age was determined by cor-relating the diaphyseal length of long bones withthe Crown-Rump (CR) length of the fetus.Material and Methods: Thirty seven claviclesfrom fetuses ranging from 120mm to 310mmCR length were studied. Fetal bones were ob-tained by process of maceration of fetuses.Crown rump length was measured before thefetuses were subjected for maceration. Boneswere dried at room temperature and length ofclavicles of both sides was measured with cali-per. Results: It was observed that clavicle grewat a rate of 0.13mm for every 1 mm increase inC.R. length. The regression coefficient and re-gression equations were worked out. Conclu-sions: It is possible to arrive at accurate fetalage by measuring the diaphyseal length ofclavicle
