After a first paper about the importance of the presence of the French Masons in Santiago de Cuba, between 1798 and 1808, this new work presents a second stage of the history of the Cuban Freemasonry in Santiago de Cuba. It begins in 1821, when the Frenchmen of Santiago de Cuba founded the lodge Humanité . This institution might have been created because of the comeback of the 1812 Spanish Constitution. This stage, during the trienio liberal , is very important. First, in this case, the founda tion of a lodge became legal, at the opposite of the first French lodges that were being displaced of the French colony towards another territory, meeting in secret. Some of the brothers were still French, but the new circ umstances and the best integration of the Frenchmen in Santiago de Cuba involved a major change with the introduction for the first time of Hispanic Cuban brothers. This phase is essential for the Cuban Freemasonry.
