How does the science and technology policy on social sciences and humanities define the usefulness of scientific knowledge produced by those fields? What mechanisms do researchers put forth regarding oriented research instruments? This paper presents the first results of the fieldwork survey on the first Technological and Social Development Projects (PDTS) in the field of humanities and social sciences. PDTS are oriented research projects that introduce new aspects regarding the evaluation of scholars as well as the cooperation with nonacademic actors. This article describes the aforementioned public policy, emphasizing the new elements identified therein and contextualizing its emergence and struggles regarding the science-society-university relationship. Besides, it presents the implemented qualitative analysis strategy along with an analysis of the input from the first stage of the fieldwork. Finally, it outlines the first conclusions from the fieldwork and literature review analysis.
