Deskripsi

Menander Rhetor’s instructions for composing and delivering a “bridal chamber speech” (κατευναστικός) suggest that the consummation of a marriage in some partsof the Greek-speaking world in the late third century CE may have been confirmed and celebrated by the display of a blood-stained item before guests on the morning after the wedding.
