Background and aims: Hospitalization is a stressful event for children and their families. Despite of global agreement about the importance of family participation in the care of hospitalized children, its meaning remains unclear that needs to be defined according to cultural and institutional characteristics. The current study has been carried out to investigate the effect of Nurse-parent Collaboration on parent's satisfaction of chronically-ill children in hospital setting. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed in Pediatric Medicine Center. During a three-month period, 30 mothers of hospitalized school-aged, chronically-ill children receiving routine care were selected as control group. Then, for a second three-month period, the Nurse-Parent collaboration was introduced in practice and 25 mothers of hospitalized school-aged, chronically-ill children receiving this new care model participated in the study as intervention group. Parent’s Satisfaction with care was also evaluated before leaving the hospital on the discharge day using the prepared questionnaire by researcher. Results: Findings showed that satisfaction level of mothers in intervention group (X= 80.24) was significantly higher than those of control group (X=20.7, P=0.000). Conclusion: It is concluded that Nurse-Parent Collaboration Model designed culturally-appropriate for Iranian families is a suitable model to define nurse-parent interaction in the care of hospitalized chronically-ill children at hospital to increase mothers’ satisfaction with care at hospital.
