Symposium 6: Autoimmune diabetes: heterogeneity in its clinical presentations Associated autoimmune diseases People with type 1 diabetes have a higher risk of contracting autoimmune diseases, when compared to the general population. The most frequent ones are those associated with Thyroiditis (between a 20% and 25%) and Celiac disease (between a 3% and 10%) in T1D in pediatrics. Many other associations are described which vary according to populations and the moment of register. Some other endocrine disorders and rheumatic and dermatological disease, such as vitiligo and alopecia areata, are also mentioned. Multiple environmental factors are also mentioned that in individuals that are genetically predisposed might favor these associations. In studies such as BabyDiab and Teddy, they describe alimentation and its impact in microbiota, the level of vitamins (D and C), the use of vaccines (the one for rotavirus seems to be protective), infections by enterovirus that might favor, for example, the association between T1D and the celiac disease
