Deskripsi

Often located at a remote section of a hospital, not connected with care departments, the morgue is a world in itself. It is a place that is quite difficult to grasp from the outside, a place you don’t easily get familiar with. But what happens when you decide to push the door and step inside, behind the scenes of the hospital world? How can a knowledge enterprise be carried out towards an object such as death, always eluding us? Exploring the morgue is primarily accepting to face, physically, a reality we usually keep at a distance: the presence of dead bodies. This article aims to show, in such conditions of fieldwork in which we are physically engaged, how the research process develops. It proceeds rather by progressive permeation than by data collection and forces the researcher to pay particular attention on what lies between things and words.
