Deskripsi

The ascent of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) party is a populist phenomenon that occurred in the circumstances generated by the COVID-19 medical crisis. The technicization of government imposed by the pandemics determined a shift of communication towards the virtual space, where AUR had a sustained campaign, centered on the messages against the control of the pandemic. These messages were launched on a field already primed by the infodemic, by the disinformation regarding the pandemic. Furthermore, the fact that the political parties avoided the organization of meetings with the voters also played a role, paving the way for AUR, which organized such events, in breach of the restrictions imposed by the government. Under these frustration-generating conditions, the legionary-specific messages that had been marginal up to the moment began to gain ground. Despite the attempts of the AUR leaders to convey some doctrinaire consistency to the movement, AUR has little chances of surviving on the political stage, for reasons that include: the lack of organizational infrastructure, party switching and the quality of the parliament members
