Because proselytism is protected and guaranteed by religious freedom, it seems to have no autonomy as a legal concept. However, in France it is treated as an independent legal question. Constructing proselytism as a specific legal area, through an examination of French jurisprudence (compared to that of the European Court of Justice), allows one to give the concept an autonomous framework and scope.
