The initiation and progression of periodontal disease were reported to be the results of complicated inter⁃ actions between specific subgingival bacteria and host immuno⁃inflammatory response. As a part of the immune and de⁃ fense system mechanisms of the host, leptin may have a protective effect on periodontal tissues. We summarize the lat⁃ est progress in the relationship between leptin and periodontitis.
